On the 1st April 1977 The Guardian added a 7 page supplement commemorating the tenth anniversary of the island San Serriffe's independence. Along with the support of themed advertisements from major companies readers were took in by the typographic puns and play on words. With people calling up their travel agents wanting to book a holiday to the island, San Serriffe became on of the most successful and famous hoaxes. Ha,ha!
